What can these past 25 years tell us about how we practise, value and imagine dramaturgy today, and into the future?


Marking 25 years since the foundation of the d'n, this long-table event is an open, collective conversation about how dramaturgy in the UK has evolved, and where it might be heading next. Together, we’ll consider what dramaturgs needed then, what feels vital now, and what might be needed in the future.


The discussion invites everyone in the room to participate: to listen, share experiences, test ideas and learn from one another. Introduced by Maddy Costa in a long table format, we will bring together invited guest voices - including Katalin Trencsényi (co-founder of the Dramaturgs' Network), Penny Black (President of the Dramaturgs' Network 2015-18), Frey Kwa-Hawking (writer, dramaturg and critic) and Flo Dessau (recipient of the d'n Fellowship 2024) - to help focus the conversation, while creating space for…
